November Board Meeting Set to Make History

And just like that, we’re back with another installment of your Checkoff Check-In!

First, a note of gratitude to this group who collectively submitted over 50 program proposals. Our Programs Committee and RAC leaders have already dug into these proposals to ensure completeness and potential for consolidation prior to our November Board meeting. Each region, along with the national programs committee, will make their case for funding during the meeting in Dallas.

Additionally, thanks to those of you who have reached out with newsletter ideas — keep the suggestions coming.

Program Submissions Across our Strategic Pillars

We asked for program ideas, and the industry delivered. Below is a breakdown of the program ideas we received, based on priority area both nationally and regionally.

There will inevitably be some tough decisions, knowing there’s only so much funding to go around right out of the gate. However, any programs that aren’t selected at this stage will still be eligible for future consideration. We thank the industry for all their hard work in drafting and submitting these program ideas, and look forward to having a robust discussion around them in our November Board meeting.

    Design Center Taking Shape

No surprise, architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) professionals are inclined to work with materials they know and trust. The issue is that concrete masonry curriculum is no longer prevalent in today’s classrooms, resulting in low awareness and comfortability with block among the current workforce.

By formalizing our approach to providing on-demand technical support and preliminary plans, we will:

    • Help AECs overcome apprehension around building with block.

    • Increase overall quantity and quality of proposed masonry designs.

    • Aggregate the most common themes, questions and concerns around concrete masonry to inform how to proactively address these issues.
